Vimeo gives creators fine-grained privacy controls, and a lot of what lives there is professional work—portfolio pieces, client cuts, paid courses. The videos a creator has made public, though, can be saved as plain MP4 files in your browser via the Vimeo to MP4 page.
This guide covers the flow, and where embeds and passwords draw the line.
1. Copy the video URL on vimeo.com
Open the video on vimeo.com itself and copy the address from your browser bar, or
use the share button on the player. The link must point to one video page—not the creator's
profile, a showcase, or a channel listing. If you found the video embedded on another site,
open it on Vimeo first; embeds restricted to specific domains are skipped.
2. Paste and parse
- Open the Vimeo to MP4 page.
- Paste the URL into the field and press Parse.
- Check the title and thumbnail so they match the video you meant to save.
Password-protected videos fail by design—the tool does not ask for, guess, or bypass passwords. If a link returns an error and you know the video is public, make sure you copied the video page URL and not an embed or player-only link.
3. Pick a rendition
Vimeo uploads often expose several renditions, and the parser lists the ones the source returns. If a high option is missing, the owner did not publish it—the ceiling is the original upload. 1080p is a good default for laptops; lower options save space on phones.
4. Save the file
- iPhone / iPad: Files app → Downloads; share into Photos if you want.
- Android: the Downloads folder, usually visible in your gallery app.
- Computer: your browser's default download folder.
Region-restricted and private uploads return errors. If the owner later takes the video down, your link stops parsing—saved files are your only copy.
What to keep in mind
- Save only videos you own or have clear permission to keep. Much of Vimeo is paid or client work—public visibility is not a rights grant.
- Treat downloaded files as personal copies. Re-uploading a creator's work, or using it in your own project without permission, is exactly what this tool is not for.
- If a video sits behind a paywall or a course platform, buying access is the only supported way in.

The parser lives on its own tool page, and the same flow covers other platforms if your clip is hosted elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download a password-protected Vimeo video?
No. The tool skips password-gated videos and domain-restricted embeds, and it never guesses or bypasses passwords. Only public Vimeo URLs parse.
Why does my Vimeo link show fewer quality options than the player?
The parser lists the renditions the source exposes to it. If a high option is missing, the owner did not publish that rendition—the original upload sets the ceiling.
How do I save a Vimeo video to my computer?
Copy the video's URL on vimeo.com, paste it on the Vimeo to MP4 page, press Parse, pick a rendition, and download. The file lands in your browser's download folder.
Do Vimeo embeds on other websites work?
Restricted embeds are skipped. Open the video on vimeo.com itself and copy its canonical URL there—then the same parse flow applies.
